The long take

Both theatrical and supremely cinematic, the long take, or sequence shot, is one of film history’s building blocks.

It is a technique that – as seen in a special 2017 episode of the TV series Casualty entitled One- can still inspire awe in general audiences. This playlist brings together, in chronological order, some of the most celebrated long takes in cinema history, such as those in Hitchcock’s Rope and Welles’ Touch of Evil, as well as some lesser known gems and recent examples such as the opening of Cuaron’s Gravity and the Bond extravaganza, Spectre.
