Shakespeare’s drama

Resources within BoB that can help to support thinking about, and engaging with, Shakespeare’s plays.

Some are documentaries and discussions that set out the context within which they were written and performed. Others are performances of individual plays, from much-discussed classics, to significantly lesser known adaptations, both in English and other languages.

From Laurence Olivier’s patriotic Henry V, made during World War 2, to Phyllida’s Lloyd’s all-female Julius Caesar set in a women’s prison. Shakespeare’s powerful drama has a global reach, as can be seen in Kurosawa’s masterpiece Throne of Blood. His drama even appeals beyond words, represented in this playlist by adaptations for the Royal Ballet.
