Existentialism is a tradition in philosophy that has clearly influenced many filmmakers and is also reflected in the history of film theory and film-philosophy. These films explore the dilemmas of freedom, authenticity, bad faith, anxiety, depression, suicide, racism, colonialism and oppression. I am also interested in the ways that specific genres, particularly romantic comedies, films noir and westerns, express Existentialist themes.
